5 Things about me....
Steven from madchilli, tagged The Gourmand and wanted to know 5 things you didn’t know about him. But Paul asked me, Mike, the person who knows him best, to write about him. So here we go:
- Paul was born in Sydney, Australia, to an Argentine father & Uruguayan mother of Portuguese descent, & now lives very happily with his husband (me) in the food capital of Australia, Melbourne.
- He was educated at an all boys private school & was persecuted and terrorised for being unique, ie gay. It was his idol, Madonna, who gave him the strength to remain true to himself. He still admires the “queen of pop” and is inspired by her mind-set.
- He was a professional makeup artist who has worked in photography, runway & film. The anorexic, drug addicted models throwing up while he was attempting to create “the look” became exhausting and he gave up that profession to concentrate on his favourite pastime, me!
- He was offered a movie role in Hollywood, but US immigration wouldn’t approve his visa due to “no compelling reason to return to Australia”. I mean aren’t I, his partner, reason enough to return from that place?? And who would want to live in the USA when Australia is so much better!!!
- And finally…The Gourmand had an alter ego - Diana Paradise. Diana created a storm in her appearance in the Miss Gay Universe 2006 pageant in Sydney’s Gay Mardi Gras festival where she was a top 10 finalist & was crowned Miss Photogenic.
Its ok dad, she has now been retired to a box in storage.

Thanks! Both for tagging me and for giving some info about yourself! I just wonder if the Italian streak comes from the Argentinian part of the heredity? And I wish I could look as glamorous!
Hi Ilva,
I just checked with my father and there is no Italian heritage in my family. However Argentina has a very Italian influenced culture, as you are probably aware. As a result I grew up eating Italian foods prepared by my grandmother, who is an amazing cook. She made her own fresh pastas and we ate more Italian food than Italians do.
And I love your blog, its my favorite. Its refreshing to see quality food and pictures in a cyberworld inundated with bgrade food blogs. X
Thanks, both (here I go again) for the answer and your lovely lovely compliment!
A really interesting post, Mike. I hope we might see you on Paul's blog again. :-) I'll comment again soon to let you know when we've responded in kind - might even follow your approach and write about each other!
Hey Paul (or should I say Mike),
I had a wide smile while reading through the post from point to point. Very funny and entertaining! Sounds like you've had a very colourful life...I'm glad you both got down to writing this.
Hi Steven
I have indeed lived a very wild and crazy life. I am now a good and responsible boy though. Yawn..
We had to think hard about which things to include, because some of the things I have done are unprintable!! My Dad reads this blog, and there are just some things that a father should not know about his gay son!
Hi again! Here's our post. Thanks for the tag, it was fun. :-)
Paul,
Well, at least you're expressing yourself through your food and blog!
Cheers,
Steven
